In the early seventies, the gastronomy supply in the DR's internal fast trains was to be improved, and many of the prewar feed cars still in use were due to be phased out. Therefore, the DR examined the procurement of new dining cars. A delivery by the wagon construction of the GDR was out of question for capacity reasons, so only the production in DR-Raw remained as an alternative. Although the Mitropa factory Gotha had already built in 1960 six cars from older vehicles as "Reko car", decided to build a new construction based on the produced in Halberstadt Bghw car. These were now created as complete new buildings and contained no more old parts. In two series created in 1973 (20) and 1977 (30) a total of 50 of the designated WRge vehicles. They carried the typical burgundy coat of Mitropa with four-language addresses, but without the previously used ornamental lines. Externally, both series differed only in two windows in the kitchen wing, which in the second series should improve the lighting conditions there. With a maximum speed of 140 km / h and a multi-voltage heating, the cars were internationally operational and thus also achieved goals in Germany and Czechoslovakia. After the conversion of most cars in 1989, just five original dining cars in red paint in use. Although the dining car should still get the new model number 541, they were completely retired until 1993. Because of their short length and sturdy furnishings, many have found a new home in museum railways.
