2-car Spanish regional train TRD 594

Motor cars and control cars must each be equipped with a Next18 decoder for digital operation.

The 594 series by Renfe or TRD (Tren Regional Diesel) is a range of diesel trains specifically designed for regional service. This series was put into operation at the end of the 1990s and improved regional traffic on non-electrified railway lines with a top speed of 160 km/h and much more modern equipment than the old 592 and 593 series, as well as their successors of the old 597 series, which have been in service since was retired in 1995 and which is very similar in terms of number of cars and seats

The 594 series is based on the Danish IC3 train, developed by ABB Scandia, a company later acquired by Adtranz. IC3 trains operate in Denmark (since 1990), Israel and Sweden. The main difference from these is that the originals are built as Motor-Trailer-Motor (MRM) and are articulated (they share the bogie at the crossing of the cars).

The Spanish version was made in Spain under license from CAF. Its main feature is its pneumatic front, which allows easy coupling of the trains. The cab is foldable, allowing full communication between the coupled trains as if they were one unit. In contrast to earlier regional trains, the seats are fixed halfway in each direction.
