The Omm 52 is a development of the wagon factory Uerdingen together with the DB. Between 1952 and 1962 over 14,000 cars were built. The Omm 52 was together with the Omm 37 the most common open freight cars of the DB in the 1950s. Wagons that were hired in the EUROP fleet received until 1968 the designation E 037.
From 1979, over 5000 cars were converted to Eo 017 to serve only the beet transport. The last cars at the DB were retired in the late 1990s. More than 800 cars were sold in the late 1970s to the DR, which hired them as El 5568, later El 5598. The last cars in the DR went out of service in 1994. The Modellbahn Union N scale models of the Omm 52 cars are characterized by detailed design and printing. Country-specific abbreviations and various addresses are also taken into account and there are versions with and without the breaking platform. All models have a close coupling mechanism and NEM coupler pockets.
