The Customs Union Foundation therefore made considerable efforts to get the cultural landscape of the Customs Union Coalmine placed at the top of the suggestion list for the UNESCO World Heritage. The two architects Fritz Schupp and Martin Kremmer were inspired by the Bauhaus movement and harmoniously designed this industrial complex on two axes according to the principles of symmetry and geometry. With Shaft XII of the Customs Union Coalmine, they designed a unique model plant.
