The Gms 54 were the first covered type of DB from conversions of older cars. The chassis was mainly used from the older cars. Special production lines had been set up in the maintenance depots Fulda and München-Freimann. About 14100 Gms 54 were made until the early 1960s. The car bodies were made of synthetic wood panels (after initially thought of planking), the floor made of pine bollards, the roof made of PIB or PVC plastic. 13800 cars were redrawn to Gls 205 by 1968 and got UIC steps and other modifications. Among other things, the roofs were replaced by StCu sheet metal. At the end of 1987, the stock was still at 4000 cars, these were then gradually phased out. Some cars were still used as a railway service cars until the 1990s, others were sold by the DB to construction companies. The Modellbahn Union N scale models of the Gms 54 cars are characterized by detailed design and printing. Country-specific abbreviations and various addresses are also taken into account and there are versions with and without the breaking platform. All models have a close coupling mechanism and NEM coupler pockets. Each running number appears in an edition of 200 copies. The length over buffer is 6.9cm per car.
