The Ilgner converter, named after its inventor Karl Ilgner, is based on the same principle as the Leonard converter (MU_N-A50437). Its special feature is simply a large flywheel that is coupled to the three-phase motor. This flywheel stores kinetic energy that can be used in various ways.
