The Union Pacific Railroad (UP) Class 4000 steam locomotive "Big Boy" is the world's largest and most powerful steam locomotive*, with the world's only 2DD2 (4-8-8-4) wheel arrangement, a total weight of 507 tons and an overall length of 40 m, including the tender. After receiving an order from the Union Pacific Railroad, the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) manufactured 25 of the locomotives between 1941 and 1944, which were active through 1959. In 2019, which marked the 150th anniversary of the opening of North America's first transcontinental rail link, No. 4014 was returned to service after being kept in working order for approximately 60 years. In Spring 2023, we at KATO will be launching this world famous steam locomotive as a 1:160 N Gauge model, where we have fully utilized our deep knowledge and skills in model railway manufacturing. *Depending on the definition of "biggest" and "strongest", opinions may differ.
