The 5045 and 5145 series of the Austrian Federal Railways are express train diesel multiple units built in the 1950s and known as the Blauer Blitz. The vehicles were initially used primarily in international and national express train traffic, the express railcar trains (TS) "Vindobona" Vienna–Praha–Berlin. For many years they also ran domestic express connections between Vienna and Villach and between Vienna and Graz via the Southern Railway. Several vehicles have been preserved as museum pieces. They are owned by AUSTROVAPOR, are looked after by the “Club Blauer Blitz” in the Strasshof Railway Museum and could be chartered in any combination for special trips until 2009. Since 2016, a two-part railcar train has been available again for nostalgic trips after partial repairs.
