Bus IFA H6 beige

The IFA H6B was a bus built in the GDR and based on the IFA H6 truck. Development of the H6 truck began during the Second World War at Vomag, although buses were also being planned. After Vomag was completely dismantled and broken up by the Soviet occupying forces shortly after the Second World War, development continued at the former Auto Union, at Horch. The H6B was produced from 1952 to 1959 at the VEB Kraftfahrzeugwerk "Ernst Grube" Werdau (until 1945 Schumann-Werke Werdau), which was part of the Industrial Association for Vehicle Construction (IFA). The bus was initially given the type designation W?501 at the VEB Kraftfahrzeugwerk "Ernst Grube", where the "W" stands for Werdau. Later it was given the designation H?6?B, based on the H?6 truck on which it is based: Horch, 6 ton payload, bus. The bus is the successor to the W?500 bus, which was larger and equipped with the Maybach HL?120 engine. The H?6?B was characterized by high reliability and shaped the streets of the GDR until the 1970s, when it was gradually replaced by the Hungarian Ikarus buses. After active use in scheduled service, a number of vehicles were passed on to private bus companies or agricultural production cooperatives, where they even survived the end of the GDR.
