The new capital city airport BER is the largest international transport hub in Berlin. With the opening on October 31, 2020, the new Airport Express (FEX) between Berlin Hbf and BER Airport Terminal 1-2 via Gesundbrunnen and Ostkreuz also started. It therefore stops at the important transfer stations in order to enable as many travelers as possible from all directions to get to and from the new airport quickly and comfortably. The new airport train station is located directly below Terminal 1. The FEX runs twice an hour and complements the existing RE7 and RB14 lines, which stop at the Berlin Stadtbahn stations and each run once an hour. Thus, there is a fast connection from Berlin Hbf or Ostkreuz to BER Terminal 1-2 four times an hour during the day. The FEX consists of four modern double-decker cars, including a control car, which have been specially adapted to the needs of air travelers. Even from the outside, the Airport Express is quickly recognizable. Striking, large pictograms clearly show the passenger which car of the train has which service. For example, particularly large storage spaces for luggage have been taken into account. The FEX also offers a comfortable 1st class. As planned, it is pulled by a class 147 electric locomotive.
