Prototype: At the beginning, there were about 150 tank wagons of Prussian origin, which did their work in epochs I - III. These special cars were necessary, because especially longer passenger trains could not be sufficiently heated by the heating power of the train locomotive often in case of greater cold. Especially the passengers of the rear cars had to suffer. Boiler wagons were not only used for steam locomotive, they were also used on electrified lines. The use of heating tank wagons at the DB ended about 1965, in the DR reached the cars, however, still in full use the years 1975 and 1976.
