From the mid-1970s, clay transports to Italy, to the northern Italian regions with ceramic industry, were increasingly being shifted from trucks to trains. The transports in epoch V were organized by subsidiaries of Deutsche Bahn. The trains travel around 900 km from the German Westerwald via Switzerland to Italy.
