The accumulator railcars of the ETA 150 series were very popular with passengers due to their excellent ride comfort and low noise level. A total of 232 units were built from 1954 to 1965. In addition, 216 type ESA 150 control cars were put into operation. The railcars, which were preferably used on flat routes, were also often referred to as "Flashlight Express", "Socket InterCity" or "Battery Flash". Their area of operation was the Augsburg area, Schleswig-Holstein, eastern Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate, southern Hesse and the Ruhr area.
