The Deutsche Bundesbahn had a total of 124 class E 94 locomotives and 194 later. Like other designs from earlier times, the E 94 had a characteristic shape with two stems, which quickly earned it the nickname “German Crocodile”. When it comes to the drive, the designers rely on a peg bearing drive, ideal for transporting heavy freight trains, for which the "crocodiles" were built. The 194 178 was the only locomotive from the fleet to receive the ocean blue / beige color scheme that was valid at that time in 1974. Due to its special color, the locomotive was affectionately known by the photographers as the “Blue Mauritius”.
