The V 200.1 series is a further development of the V 200.0. In 1962 the first locomotive was delivered to the German Federal Railway. The last examples were taken out of service at the Oberhausen 1 depot for the summer timetable of 1988. The universal locomotive had an output of 2,700 hp. This meant that it could transport a wide variety of train types. The express train operations on the Vogelfluglinie or on the mountainous Black Forest Railway and later on the Emsland line as the successor to the 043 with the “Langer Heinrich” Emden-Rheine ore trains were legendary.
