With the merger of Dutch freight transport with the German Railion Group, DB AG gained access to part of the NS series 1600 electric locomotives. In 2012 ten machines were painted traffic red as part of maintenance. At the initiative of some train drivers, the last three locomotives were pasted with farewell texts at the end of their service at DB Cargo NL in 2020.
