Based on the French BB 7200 electric locomotive, the NS received the four-axle series 1600 electric locomotives. When they were introduced in 1981, they were the most powerful locomotives in the NS fleet. With a service weight of 83 t they developed 4,540 kW and reached a top speed of 140 km / h.
