Engine with flywheel. Drive on 8 wheels, 2 of them with traction tires. Three-light top lighting alternating with the direction of travel on both sides. On both sides close-coupled link and coupler pocket according to NEM 355.

Prototype: The V 200.1 series (from 1968: BR 221) is a further development of the V 200.0. In 1962, the first locomotive was delivered to the DB. The last copies were taken out of the Bw Oberhausen 1 for the summer timetable 1988. The universal locomotive made 2,700 hp. This allowed her to carry a wide variety of train types.
