From 1959, a general repair (GR) was carried out on a number of locomotives in the Stendal Reichsbahnausbesserungswerk (RAW), in which only the war-related "refinements" had to be dismantled and worn components or undersized assemblies had to be replaced. During the general repair, mainly only the standing boiler and steering racks were replaced. The locomotives retained their original serial number.
