The tank locomotives of the series 64 were developed by the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft from 1926 onwards. After the Second World War, 278 machines remained with the DB. Here they were mainly used in passenger and freight train service on branch lines.

The 64 518 was sold to Eurovapor after it was taken out of service in 1972. In 1980, the Emmental section in Huttwil carried out the processing. After that, she was used for steam trains in Switzerland until 2014.
