• close couplers with NEM coupler sockets

About the history of the Rheingold coaches:
After the famous dome cars haven’t been used anymore, there was little difference between the TEE Rheingold and standard InterCity trains. So in 1983, the DB improved the Rheingold coach fleet to give the Rheingold back its lost glory. New interiors, new sliding doors and special club coach were aimed at making this TEE service more attractive. A branch service to Munich completed the concept. This train ran between Mannheim and Munich. Through coaches now ran to Brig and Chiasso. In 1985 the branch service has been given up for a new connection between Mainz and Munich – in summer to Salzburg, Austria.
The locomotives used for the Rheingold were the famous class 103 engines. The branch services have mostly – but not exclusively – been hauled by class 110 locomotives in red/cream livery.
