At the beginning of the 1970s, the older types of rail mail wagons could hardly be used profitably. Even the first new cars built in 1952/53 could only be used to a limited extent with their 120 km/h.
For this reason, the Deutsche Bundespost commissioned new rail mail cars in 1973. Up to 1976, 200 cars were manufactured, which were referred to as "Post mrz". Originally approved for a top speed of 140 km/h, it was converted and upgraded for 200 km/h in 1979.
These wagons could also be used in IC and EC trains. Up until the mid-1990s, the 200 km/h fast Post-IC trains were the main area of application for these cars, which were initially painted green and later ocean blue/beige.
After the postal wagons were decommissioned, some were sold to private companies, including RailAdventure, which uses these wagons as coupling wagons for vehicle transfers.
