The redesign of this important vehicle type not only closes a gap in the Piko range, but will also enrich many model railroad layouts from Epochs III to V with numerous variants. The development team implemented the distinctive shape of the prototype in outstanding quality in the model and at the same time achieved ideal driving characteristics. These attributes are underlined by the effective use of perfect engravings and a coating that is consistent down to the smallest detail. Modern LED technology serves as the basis for the light change in red / white as well as the light functions that can be switched by retrofitting a digital decoder. The digital interface Next18 according to NEM 662 is state-of-the-art, a decoder can easily be plugged in. The vehicle's buffer beam can be completed prototypically with the supplied accessories.

The EW IV standard wagons were delivered to the SBB from 1981 and, with over 500 units, form one of the largest Swiss wagon fleets. The car body is made of welded lightweight steel construction. The cars are very popular with travelers because of the spacious interior with face-to-face seating and the smooth running characteristics even at high speeds. The EW-IV wagons, with various modernizations, are still in use throughout practically all of Switzerland today.
