The prototype of the “dumpling press” was put into operation by the DR in 1988 as the BR230. It was not until the beginning of 1991 that 20 locomotives were delivered to the DR and 15 locomotives to the CSD. The CD locomotives have the series number 372. The main area of application for this two-system locomotive is train traffic. After a short period of use, the DR locomotives were given the designation BR180 at the beginning of 1992. This wagon is equipped with the transport protection device “lockable partitions” for the careful transport of highly sensitive goods of various types.
