Modellbahn Union

The Modellbahn Union Spur N models of the railbus are based on the well-known model from Brekina. Compared to the Brekina model, the Modellbahn Union models have been adapted to the current state of the art and optimized with the current possibilities. The models received the current Next18 interface, loudspeakers and a new drive with a new, smooth-running high-performance motor. The models are analog, DCC/SX Digital with and without sound available. We install an ESU LokSound 5 decoder with impressive original driving sounds in the sound models. In connection with the decoder, the large hidden speaker produces an impressive sound for N gauge models. To optimize the digital driving characteristics and the sound functions, a buffer memory with a capacitor capacity of 400 µF is installed in the sound version of the model. The model is the MAN version with two engines. The sound version of the model is of course equipped with the correct twin-engine ESU sound.

Prototype: The rail bus was built by MAN between 1956 and 1969 and delivered to various private railways. It was available in one- and two-engine versions with MAN diesel engines from its own production. Depending on the version, the railbuses had 66-70 seats and an engine power of 150-200 hp. The vehicles were used individually or in double and triple traction. Some companies also used the model to pull freight cars. A total of 60 vehicles were built. Multiple changes of ownership resulted in a large number of color and paint variants. The area of application extended across Germany, currently there are still several rail buses in regular museum use.

The models have a 5-pole motor, white-red light change (individually switchable in digital operation), a Next18 digital interface, prototypical inscriptions, NEM coupler pockets and standard N couplers. The models appear in an edition of only 250 copies each. The LüP is 10.2 cm per vehicle.

For the use of freight wagons in traffic to Great Britain, freight wagons were required that corresponded to the smaller British loading gauge and, in addition to the well-known air brakes, also had the suction air brake system that is common in Great Britain. For this purpose, the DRG procured covered wagons and stake wagons with hand brakes from 1935 50 refrigerated trucks in two lots, but without a handbrake. The cars had ice buckets that were filled through the overhead doors. They were hired as Gfkhs Saarbrücken, later they received the type designation Tbnhs Berlin. Many survived the Second World War, around 20 came to the DB in 1950, some cars also to the DR. The DB leased about half of the Tbnhs to Transthermos, the others were given the type designation Tbnhs 30. In 1964, 19 cars were redesignated as UIC -compliant type designation Icfrs 400 (Epoch IV) provided, but most of them were already withdrawn by 1969, since the train was too slow compared to the competition on the road, especially in refrigerated traffic.

The model railway Union gauge N models of the Tbnhs wagons in the scale 1:160 are characterized by detailed design and printing. Different addresses as well as different paint conditions based on the usage time are also taken into account. All models have a close coupling link and NEM coupler pockets. The LüP is 7.3 cm per car.

The standard color scheme for DB long-distance locomotives is traffic red with a light gray front bar. For the anniversary "50 years of Intercity in Germany", in September 2021, the Deutsche Bahn donated the 101 013 the color scheme to match the painting of the IC cars. It was given the light gray design familiar from the ICE and long-distance coaches with a traffic red decorative stripe. A total of 145 examples of the 101 series were put into service by the end of 1999.

For this reason, the Deutsche Bundespost commissioned new rail mail cars in 1973. Up to 1976, 200 cars were manufactured, which were referred to as "Post mrz". Originally approved for a top speed of 140 km/h, it was converted and upgraded for 200 km/h in 1979.

These wagons could also be used in IC and EC trains. Up until the mid-1990s, the 200 km/h fast Post-IC trains were the main area of application for these cars, which were initially painted green and later ocean blue/beige.

After the postal wagons were decommissioned, some were sold to private companies, including RailAdventure, which uses these wagons as coupling wagons for vehicle transfers.
