The 65 series was part of the new construction program of the Deutsche Bundesbahn and was first delivered in 1951. The characteristic appearance gives the machine a powerful and elegant appearance. Her preferred area of activity was the suburban and light rail traffic in the Ruhr area as a passenger train tender locomotive. Some machines were later given push-pull train control. The 18 locomotives reached a top speed of 65 km / h with an output of 1,089 kW. In 1972 the last machine went to the siding.
