The 26.4 m local traffic cars with stainless steel car bodies, which were formerly known as "Silberlings" in the vernacular, are hidden behind the traffic red paintwork of the Deutsche Bahn. At the beginning of the 1990s, these n-cars were modernized (in New German: subjected to a redesign) because they had reached around half their useful life and there was no money available for new vehicles. As part of an extended general inspection, these vehicles should be made more attractive for passengers. The design features were: better seats, luggage racks and waste bins, closed toilet systems, new materials and colors and, if required, a multi-purpose room with folding seats and space for prams, wheelchairs, bicycles, etc. A wide variety of design variants were tried out, which was particularly the case with the Interior design led to a significant increase in the variety of types. In line with the "corporate identity" of the time, the cars were given a mint-turquoise-pastel-turquoise-light-grey coat of paint, which initially earned them the nickname "Greenlings". From 1996 there was once again a new color concept. The modernized "silverlings" were now painted traffic red with light gray doors and decorative stripes. Later, older modernizations were gradually adapted to the new color concept and thus also mutated into "Rotlingen". Due to regionalization and the associated procurement of a large number of new railcars, the n-cars of the DB AG are now largely history and can only be found with special or booster services. One of these special services are still the so-called bike express trains, especially in Baden-Württemberg, because the combination of train and bike has been enjoying increasing popularity for years, especially in day tourism. A special feature of all Radexpress trains is the use of vehicles with extra large bicycle capacity, such as converted luggage trolleys as bicycle transport trolleys with space for around 100 bicycles. In this way, the most beautiful areas of Baden-Württemberg can be experienced in an environmentally friendly way, with the big advantage: In contrast to arriving by car, you do not have to return to the starting point after the bike tour, but can be driven home from any other train station .
