The 98.8 series, the Bavarian. GtL 4/4, was first put into service in 1911 by the Bavarian State Railways. With a few changes, it was continued to be built until 1927. The locomotives proved themselves very well in operation and, with an output of 450 hp, were the most powerful Bavarian local railroad locomotives. A total of 117 locomotives were manufactured. Almost all railway depots in Bavaria that served branch lines had GtL 4/4 in their inventory. The last two Bavarian GtL 4/4s from the Schweinfurt depot were among the favorite locomotives of railway fans in the 1960s. Towards the end of her career, 098 812 often ran on the branch line from Bad Neustadt (Saale) to Königshofen (in Grabfeld) and hauled passenger and freight trains there. The locomotive has been preserved as a rolling museum locomotive for the Ulm Railway Friends.

For use on the French direct current network, the French State Railways (SNCF) acquired a total of 237 locomotives of the multi-purpose locomotive BB 7200 from 1976 onwards. The design of the locomotives with the so-called "nez cassé" (broken nose) comes from the hand of the French Paul Arzens, who was responsible for the design of several SNCF locomotives at the time. Starting in 1999, the locomotives were divided into the various business areas and have since been used in a wide variety of train types.

The Ae6 / 8 locomotives of the Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon railway (BLS) were built in 1926-1943. Measured by the required pulling force, the Ae6 / 8 of the DLS were comparable to the Ce6 / 8 of the SBB (crocodile). The first four copies were built in 1926 and 1931 by Breda and SAAS and initially had straight cabs and a small porch, which were rebuilt in 1955 and 1956 in its present form.
