Model info: Without drive, without lighting, rotating N gauge metal axles
Prototype: They were less popular with railway employees than the more elegant handcars based on VW Bulli vans: the KLV 12. However, DB cost estimators appreciated the low price (just over half the price of a VW handcar) and ordered a total of 800 of these mobile metal-framed vehicles between 1956 and 1963. Because they were also extremely robust, the last ones were scrapped or sold to private railways only in the 1990s. Our Modellbahn Union models are mostly suitable for Era 3 layouts, but also perfectly fit Era 4 and early Era 5 layouts.

Klv 20: The Bulli for the rails

Prototype: In 1954/55, the DB ordered new operating office railcars. Based on the VW T1 body, a total of 30 Klv 20 vehicles were ordered from Beilhack (our prototype) and WMD. The VW body was mounted on a new frame. They were powered by an air-cooled VW industrial engine with a 1.2-liter displacement and 28 hp. The top speed was 70 km/h, and the total weight was approximately 1,400 kg. Power was transmitted via a clutch and a manual transmission from automotive engineering, with four forward gears and one reverse gear. The original vehicles were equipped with a lifting device for turning, allowing one person to lift and rotate the vehicle. The DB decommissioned the Klv 20s by 1977; they continued to be used by other railways, and some have survived to this day. Thanks to their robust construction and easy maintenance, seven vehicles have survived to this day.

The Re 4/4 II locomotives are universal locomotives and are therefore used for both passenger and freight trains. Heavy trains are usually hauled in double traction together with an Re 6/6. With 277 units delivered, the Re 4/4 II locomotives represent the largest series of locomotives in the SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) fleet and were procured between 1964 and 1985. With a power output of 4,700 kW, the locomotive reaches a top speed of 140 km/h.

The Opel Rekord P1 (originally Opel Olympia Rekord P) is a passenger car that Opel presented in the summer of 1957 as the successor to the Opel Olympia Rekord and built until the end of 1962. A striking feature of this model were the panoramic windows based on the model of American vehicles. The record P1 proved to be a great sales success both domestically and in export. Between August 1957 and July 1960 [1] 509,110 vehicles were delivered, of which 394,692 sedans, 109,282 station wagons (caravans) and 15,136 delivery vans (without rear windows). In addition, there were 67,952 units of the Opel 1200. With a newly designed body and largely the same technology, the Rekord P2 came onto the market in August 1960. The IFA H6B was a truck built in East Germany. Development of the H6 truck began during World War II at Vomag, where buses were also planned. After Vomag was completely dismantled and broken up by the Soviet occupying forces shortly after the war, development continued at the former Auto Union, under the Horch brand. The H6B was produced from 1952 to 1959 at the VEB Kraftfahrzeugwerk "Ernst Grube" Werdau (formerly Schumann-Werke Werdau until 1945), which was part of the Industrieverband Fahrzeugbau (IFA). The bus was initially designated W501 at the VEB Kraftfahrzeugwerk "Ernst Grube," with the "W" standing for Werdau. Later, in reference to the H6 truck on which it was based, it was renamed H6B: Horch, 6 ton payload, bus. The bus is the successor to the W500, which was larger and equipped with the Maybach HL120 engine. The H6B was characterized by its high reliability and, until its gradual replacement by Hungarian Ikarus buses, shaped the streetscape of East Germany well into the 1970s.
