The mint-green diesel locomotive 234 304-4 of Deutsche Bahn was a unique experiment of the early 1990s. It was originally converted from a Class 232 locomotive for fast InterRegio and Intercity services. In the process, it received bogies from decommissioned Class 130 locomotives and was upgraded for a top speed of 140 km/h.

When the 234 series was soon to be increasingly used in regional transport, the 234 304 received a new paint scheme in mint turquoise/light grey, the then typical colors of the regional railway.

This color experiment, however, remained a one-off: The Class 234 locomotives were never permanently used in regional service. This makes the mint green 234 304-4 a remarkable piece of railway history – and a truly unique model.

The current Class 232 locomotives of Deutsche Bahn began their career in the 1970s as the Class 132 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn. They were built at the Luhansk Locomotive Works (then the Voroshilovgrad Locomotive Plant) in the Soviet Union. These locomotives were specifically designed for use on the non-electrified main lines of East Germany and were intended to haul both heavy freight trains and express trains. With an output of 3,000 hp, electric train heating, and proven Soviet technology, they were among the most powerful diesel locomotives in Europe.

For many years, these locomotives shaped the image of the railway in eastern Germany and were considered a symbol of reliability and power, qualities they retained even after 1994 under their new designation Class 232 at Deutsche Bahn.

The Class 232 diesel locomotives are among the best-known members of the so-called "Ludmilla" family, originally built in the Soviet Union for the East German State Railway (Deutsche Reichsbahn). With their high performance and robust engineering, they were ideally suited for heavy freight and passenger trains. Following the 1994 railway reform, numerous locomotives were transferred to Deutsche Bahn AG, where they continued to be used in freight operations by DB Cargo. Many were repainted in the typical traffic red livery and deployed throughout Germany for heavy transfer, local freight, and mainline trains.

DB Cargo still has some locomotives of the 232 series in active service today, especially on non-electrified lines, where their reliability and tractive power are valued.

The VW T3 from Volkswagen was the third generation of the VW Transporter. It was produced from 1979 to 1992 and was the last rear-wheel drive van series. After the VW 411/412 from 1968, the T3 was the last new development of a vehicle from Volkswagen with an air-cooled rear engine.
