The first five machines were only approved for 125 km/h when they were delivered and were accordingly designated Ae 4/4II 261–265. In 1969, after the box support was changed to coil springs and extensive test runs, they were approved for the R series and the maximum speed was increased to 140 km/h. Since then, the locomotives have been designated Re 4/4 161–165.

To mark the 60th anniversary of the Re 4/4, the new Arnold models come in elegant cardboard packaging with chrome lettering and metal, which contains a booklet on the history of this successful locomotive as well as a silver metal keyring in the shape of a BLS Re 4/4.

The models themselves are supplied in the analogue versions with a Next-18 interface and driver's cab lighting that can be switched on in digital mode. They cannot be retrofitted with sound. The versions with sound are already equipped with sound and a "decoder on board" from the factory. Only original recordings of the BLS Re 4/4 were used for the locomotive sounds.

In addition to the driver's cab lighting, the sound variants also have a so-called "power bank" with which even larger power interruptions of several seconds on the track can be bridged.
