Lasercut processing

The laser cutting process uses a laser to cut shapes out of cardboard or wood. With a laser beam diameter of 0.06mm, very delicate parts can be manufactured.

The laser can not only be used for cutting, but also for engraving. This allows an infinite number of possibilities when designing the surfaces; for example, brick, tile or other stone structures can be recreated in detail. The cardboard used is a very high-quality, solid-colored graphics cardboard with high color fastness. This enables us to produce naturally colored models with a high degree of accuracy and stability.

Building of lasercut models

Building laser-cut building models from graphic cardboard only differs from conventional plastic kits in a few ways. If you take the following points into account, you will have the best conditions for an excellent model building experience and result with laser cut models:

Cutting

  • Always use a sharp scalpel or a fine-bladed cutter.
  • Always cut straight and vertically.
  • Cut out the parts step by step according to the construction instructions. The parts are not numbered in the frame!

Folding

  • Before folding, score the fold lines with a sharp blade to prevent the engraving from chipping.
  • Use a folding aid (e.g. a ruler).

Glueing

  • Remove any smoke from cut edges with a soft cloth or a fiberglass eraser.
  • Use suitable glue.
  • We recommend the Lasercut Kit Glue (AD87) and - for parts that need to be glued very quickly - Roket Card Glue (AD57) or Super Phatic (AD21) from Deluxe Materials.
  • Use a toothpick or brush to apply the glue.
  • If too much glue was used, it can be removed with a toothpick.
  • Only stick windows on the edges.

Illuminate

  • Study the construction instructions and decide when the lighting should be installed before gluing.

Painting and aging

  • Always use high-quality, non-thin acrylic or enamel paints.
  • If necessary, prime with Enamel or Titanium primer.
  • Age the kit with pigments and enamel-based aging products.
