Neue Doppelstockwagen der DR von Fleischmann
Mitte der 50er Jahre beschaffte die DR zwei- und vierteilige Gliederzüge. Dabei stellte sich bald heraus, dass bei Defekt z.B. einer Achse der ganze Gliederzug zur Reparatur auf das Abstellgleis musste. Das war unwirtschaftlich und so sann man auf Abhilfe. Ein Blick zum „Klassenfeind im Westen“ brachte die Idee: Anfang der 50er Jahre stellte die DB kurze (22,4 m) und lange (26,4 m) Doppelstockwagen in zwei kleinen Serien in Dienst. Aber die DB verwarf diese Idee und baute bis in die 90er Jahre nur einstöckige Reisezugwagen. Das übernahm wohl die DR. So war der Gedanke nach Doppelstock-Einzelwagen geboren. Waren doch die Gliederzüge in Bezug auf Änderungen der Fahrgastzahlen und bei Schäden recht unflexibel. Ende der 60er Jahre hatte die DR schon Pläne für diese Fahrzeuge auf dem Tisch und beauftrage die Fa. VEB Waggonbau Görlitz solche Fahrzeuge zu entwickeln. Auf der Frühjahrsmesse 1972 war es denn so weit: die ersten beiden Fahrzeuge waren fertig und konnten vom Publikum bewundert werden. Der Vorteil lag auf der Hand: Die Reisenden konnten sich wegen der Übergänge besser im Zug verteilen und Schadwagen konnten sofort ausgereiht werden. Ein kleinerer Nachteil soll nicht verschwiegen werden: Die Einzelwagen hatten mit 44 t Eigengewicht rd. 7 t mehr auf dem Buckel wie die Teilwagen der Gliederzüge.
